How to Paint a French Country or Modern Farmhouse Buffet using Dixie Belle Paint and Dixie Dirt

French Country or Modern Farmhouse is so in right now and I want to show you how I created this look with just Dixie Belle Paint and Dixie Dirt. It's so fun and easy and gives such a classy and elegant finish!

Here's where we are going....

First, to paint the piece, I used French Linen as my base and blended in Fluff on the centers of the drawers and doors, all with the Flat Mini Brush. I wanted a very subtle highlight of the insets. You'll need to be sure to have your Fine Mist Water Bottle handy when blending. I worked my way in with each section so I could blend while the paint was wet. Now it's time for Dixie Dirt! Dixie Dirt will give you a powder glaze type effect. It's so pretty! And Dixie Dirt is a highly under utilized product from the Dixie Belle Paint line...you really should try it!

First, I used the new La Petite brush to apply Clear Best Dang Wax in all the crevices of the drawers and doors. I did one drawer at a time. Then, you'll wipe back the Best Dang Wax, leaving the "wet" wax in all the crevices.

Working quickly, I moved to a French Tip Brush and Dixie Dirt in Charcoal. I dipped my French Tip Brush in the Dixie Dirt slightly, then tapped off the excess back into the jar before applying to my piece. I applied it as if it were paint, grabbing more as I needed and wiped the brush back and forth over the areas I wanted the dirt. Then I took another dry rag and wiped back the Dixie Dirt as best as I could.

You may have some of the Dixie Dirt stick to the Best Dang Wax in areas that you didn't intend to, but don't worry! I did too! I took a baby wipe (or wet rag) and cleaned up the areas I needed to and wiped back heavy areas of Dixie Dirt that I wanted to lighten up. Once you've got it how you want, set it with a heat gun or blow dryer.

I let the Dixie Dirt completely dry with the Best Dang Wax for 12 hours, then sealed with one coat of Clear Coat Flat then a final Coat of Gator Hide!

The top of the piece was in really good shape. So all I did to finish the top was take a RAD Pad in Medium and sanded the top really good, but not down to bare wood. I applied No Pain Gel Stain in Walnut over the top with an Applicator Pad and then wiped it back with a shop towel once the top was completely covered. I let the No Pain Gel Stain sit for 24 hours then applied just one coat of Gator Hide over the top!

For a special added touch, I applied the new Belle's and Whistles transfer Magnolia inside the doors...these will be available mid-late March.
